We have a cria (baby alpaca) born premature on Friday, March 9th. She was born at 10.2 lbs and lost about 3 lbs in the first couple of days. We milked mom for her colostrum and did a plasma transfusion on the following Monday. As of yesterday, she is back to her birth weight. We continue to supplement mom's milk every 2 hours during the day and every 4 hours at night. We have finally named her - Milagro (Spanish word for miracle) and her nickname is Mila. As soon as I can find my camera cord, I will post pictures!
